Superman is tough to please everyone. On one hand it's THE classic hero who chooses to protect his adopted home world with his extra-ordinary abilities. Even with Toby McGuire's extra muscle he put on, the Spidey suit was enhanced in the face, chest, shoulders, biceps, and thighs to make the muscles look right in the right places inside the suit. (spandex and lycra normally has a smoothing compression that happens.)
The studio is saying it's all Routhe under the Superman suit, but there's rumors flying about his suit being padded as well. I don't know for certain.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I suspected that was the reason behind the high neck line.There's nothing traditional whatsoever about the neckline, which by the way, is "designed" to hide the fact that he's wearing the muscle suit underneath it.
I'm not getting into fan-boy-ish debates about the suit itself... I'm all for the modern treatments and realistic storylines in our movies.
The larger picture here, is that just when hero movies are finally getting their day in the sun, the money-driven studios are already knocking them back down to the corny cheese-ball attempts of the past, just so they can "sell a few more action figures".

The progression from Batman to the Spiderman movies (we're ignoring Shumacher) and movies that we never dreamed of being made well like Hellboy.... It scares me the rapid downturn that I'm seeing from Daredevil.... Catwoman.... and now Superman?
I'm really hoping that Batman Begins and Fantastic Four turn this trend around, or we'll never get a good Spawn Movie or any other decent Hero movie. Hollywood will declare the genre dead for the next 20 years.
